RightStart Mathematics First Edition

RightStart™ Mathematics was written in the late 1990s and made available to homeschoolers in 2001. Although the Second Edition is now available, the first edition lessons and worksheets are available for purchase and will be supported.

What does the RS1 lesson format look like?
Every lesson identifies the objectives and materials needed for the day. The warm up reviews previous lessons or refreshes something needed for the day’s lesson. The day’s activities are then listed. Things the teacher needs to specifically say are underlined.

RS1 Level A, Lesson 35
RS1 Level A, Lesson 35
RS1 Level E, Lesson 36
RS1 Level E, Lesson 36

Each level’s objectives, table of contents, and sample lessons are available here:

  • RS1 Level A Lessons, Objectives, and Sample Lessons
  • RS1 Level B Lessons, Objectives, and Sample Lessons
  • RS1 Level C Lessons, Objectives, and Sample Lessons
  • RS1 Level D Lessons, Objectives, and Sample Lessons
  • RS1 Level E Lessons, Objectives, and Sample Lessons
What materials are needed?
We have Starter Kits and Add-On Kits to help you get all the materials and books needed. Being with the Starter Kit which will give you the materials and books needed. The next level will need new books and a few more materials which are available with the Add-On Kits.

Worksheets have a copyright for a single child’s use, so additional worksheets are needed for multiple children. Electronic worksheets, with a copyright for a single family’s use, are also available.

Do we have to start with RS1 Level A?
No. You can begin at the child’s appropriate level. Take the Placement Test; this will identify your entry level.

If starting in RS1 Level C, D, or E, you will need to complete the appropriate Transition Lessons, included in the Starter Kit. These lessons will introduce the child (and teacher) to the RightStart™ philosophy and approach. Everything in the Transition lessons is known information, but has a new approach and clarifies understanding.

What our Customers Are Saying

Thank you so much for your RightStart Math Curriculum. I have been using it for 3 years with my son and my daughter is beginning her second year. I love the strategies you use for teaching math and the lessons are fun to teach.

My daughter is 7 and this is our 2nd year to use RightStart Math. She is in 2nd grade and is adding and subtracting 4 digits numbers with trading like it is nothing. She also can do her multiplications. The most amazing thing is that when she is somewhere and has to spend her money she is quick to tell them how much change she needs back. I have seen a lot of teenagers and adults who cannot do thi… Read more

My daughter is in 4th grade this year. Math has always been a struggle for her, as it was for her father. I discovered that she has dyslexia (which is hereditary). I didn’t realize that had any effect on math, but I found out that people with dyslexia cannot learn with rote memorization or sequential skills. This makes it harder for them to remember math facts or how to do algorithms. Before I kne… Read more
