First vs. Second Edition
RIGHTSTART™ MATHEMATICS NOW HAS A SECOND EDITION!
The new RightStart™ Mathematics Second Edition has the same award-winning and innovative approach to teaching mathematics as the first edition.
After the first edition of RightStart™ Mathematics was written, Dr. Cotter continued her research on teaching math to children. She began to collect ideas and, in the mid 2000s, she began to write the second edition of RightStart™ Mathematics implementing these new approaches and techniques.
The new lessons and worksheets include an easier-to-teach format, incorporates updated research, includes more games, and continues to advance and develop the child’s conceptual understanding of critical math concepts with the philosophy and approach for which we are recognized.

What is updated with the RightStart™ Mathematics Second Edition (RS2)?
The first edition was written in the late 1990s and made available to homeschoolers in 2001. Minor changes have been made over time; however, the Second Edition is a complete rewrite. This major project began in 2010 and includes new research and ideas that Dr. Joan A. Cotter has developed over recent years.
The RS2 manuals have a slightly different and easier-to-follow format and, as always, encompasses and exceeds the recommendations. See sample lessons here.
Are there any changes with the materials?
The Second Edition will utilize almost the same materials as the first edition; however, the order and use may change, therefore the supplies needed will change.
If you are transitioning from the first edition to the second edition, we have bridge kits to get you all the materials needed.
Will RightStart™ Mathematics first edition (RS1) continue to be available?
Can the new lessons be purchased and used with RS1?
No. Because the Second Edition is a complete rewrite, the new material cannot be isolated. Topics are presented in different orders and some subjects are presented in a totally new manner.
