My students and I completed two years of RightStart, and definitely enjoyed it. While it’s not for everyone, it has helped my “big picture” thinkers grasp math and geometric concepts in a new and engaging way. While there isn’t any advanced lesson planning required for you, as the teacher, you will spend a part of each day going over the lesson with your students. Definitely not a “hands-off” curriculum, but the teacher materials are very helpful and thorough. The only negative I can see with RightStart is that it ends at level G, which my middle schoolers have just aged out of. Great for both visual and kinesthetic learners.
I am loving RSM! This is my 20th year of homeschooling. I have graduated five from homeschool high school and have three left to go. 15,12,9. I had heard of RSM but had never tried it. I attended a workshop at the Colorado homeschool conference (CHEC) this summer and was intrigued. My 15 year old has some LD and math is a huge block for her. (We are really still at adding and subtracting.) I ordered Level B,C&D. I am working through B with my 9 year old and C with the other two. They are thriving! My 15 year old told me yesterday that she thinks math is fun! We love the math games, too! RSM makes so much sense to me. I can’t believe it’s taken me 20 years to find you!
Thank you for publishing such an excellent program.
I wanted to thank you for your program. We started RightStart in July because my son was struggling so much with math and I hoped it might help with his lack of number sense, for one thing. We’ve been doing it for 4 months and he’s gone from saying that he hates math and is terrible at it to today saying he’s a ‘math king’. We still have ups and downs, but we both finally feel like he’s making progress. I’m just sorry that I didn’t buy RightStart 2 years ago when I first looked at it!
Thanks again,
Elly
I cannot say enough good things about RightStart Mathematics. I began RightStart for both of my children in 1st grade after taking one year to ponder RightStart or other math curriculum options. I have NEVER once regretted my decision. Though my children are 3 years apart in age they are only 2 years apart in their math curriculum. My son is doing the Level E lessons and he loves the math puzzles we begin each lesson with…and my daughter, who is doing Level C lessons, just HAS TO TRY the math puzzle! I am thrilled that Right Start has made fractions AND percentages such an easy concept to learn (I played percentages memory today with my son and am SO delighted that he does not “hate” math). As a home school parent who is strong in math I have LOVED that RightStart has helped me to to better grasp the concepts I taught myself (complete the “10” when adding). Just maybe I will have the honor to meet Dr. Joan Cotter AND play a game of corners with her!!!
My daughter and I talked about the definition of a line segment this morning. She looked at me with wide eyes and asked incredulously, “Has there ever been a true line in all the history of geometry?” I loved it. Thanks for helping to start the conversation.
Just wanted to let you know that I am in my 15th year of homeschooling and have 6 children who all went through right start math from level A through the geometry program. My 4 oldest children started in a traditional classroom in the 7th grade and all 4 tested into the advanced math class. I definitely attribute their success in math to this program! I am about to purchase my 6th and last level E worksheets and I just can’t believe it! Thank you so very much!
This is still early on, but I wanted to let you know that we’ve been using Level A and Level C 2nd editions for about 2 weeks and I just LOVE them! So wonderful! More clear and easy to teach from, and, so far, each lesson feels like a manageable chunk of material to work with.
I’ll update you later in the year, but so far I have to say that I am VERY happy that I upgraded to 2nd edition.
Thanks so much!
I did not like math when I was going through school and college. The thought of teaching it to our son to where he would understand it was a whole other world. I found RightStart Math through my research. I like the approach of understanding math as a whole and the break down for each technique leading up to the equations that need to be solved.
I think it is important to really understand where your child is at in understanding math, not just the rote memorization, because of the limited space we have in our brains. It’s the quality not the quantity. I think it goes a long way with learning anything is to understand what you are learning.
It has been fun to watch Joey figuring out each step and the ahha moments. I’m actually learning to love math because of the RighStart approach. Joey’s favorite game is go to the dump ,it gets him to play and learn at the same time. We look forward to starting Level G.
Thank you RightStart Math for the right start math.Michele
“I am using Rightstart for my 2nd and 4th graders and we are loving it. I wanted a math that was very interactive and hands on and this is perfect. The kids are always excited to find out what math game we get to play. Anytime anyone asks about my curriculum, I am excited to tell them about rightstart. I will definitely be using this with all of my children.”
My son loves his math lessons and really enjoyed building the thousands triangle even my big kids (10 and 13) got into it working out how big a ten-thousands triangle would be.
